Each year, we waste 1.3 gigatons of edible food and this releases 3.3 gigatons of CO2 equivalent. This means that 2.2 lbs of food waste equals to 5.5 lbs of CO2 equivalent (or 5.59635 lbs to be more exact).1 lb equals 453 grams. Our meals are 460 grams. Given restaurants, food delivery and takeway food waste 30-50% of their food the calculation is 460 * 30% = 138 grams.
