Invented in a 3-Michelin-Star French restaurant in the 1970’s (https://www.greatbritishchefs.com/features/sous-vide-history), the sous-vide vacuum pouch method was designed to preserve very high-quality food without the need for additives. It takes up less space in your fridge or freezer. It keeps the base, main and side components of our meals separate, which maximises taste and flexibility for you. It’s washable, recyclable and - of course - certified completely food-safe.More details are here for you. https://thevacuumpouch.co.uk/download/recycla-pouch-specification/

Do you use sustainable suppliers?

We pride ourselves on using sustainable suppliers only – that’s part of our commitment to being ethical and responsible to our planet. You can find details of each supplier here below.

Fish suppliers

All our fish is sustainably sourced by Kirwin Brothers Ltd.

Vegetable suppliers

We get all our veggies from Fresh Direct, who work on a local-first approach to source their produce.

Packaging and Recycling

How do I recycle the packaging?

All our packaging is fully returnable or recyclable (including the pouches, plastic wrappers of the wool liner and the coolers), and the wool fleece is compostable. To return: Pack three weeks’ worth of insulation in a box and return to us for re-use. Print your label and check out our handy how-to video here:https://www.eatfarmstand.com/packaging-return To recycle: Snip cool packs, pour the water down the sink, and the outer plastic can be recycled according to your local recycling scheme. Rinse the pouches (tip: use your tongs to swish them in the pan of boiled water!) and put in with household recycling. Refer to your local regulations on how to recycle cardboard and plastic. If your local council doesn't accept soft plastics, there are various soft plastic recycling locations - one example is with Co-Op, which you can acess here

How eco-friendly is your packaging?

Extremely. All our packaging is 100% recyclable, so nothing has to go to landfill. The food is packaged in fully-recyclable plastic pouches which are PA/Polyamide free, and our recyclable cardboard boxes contain a compostable sheep's wool liner to keep everything at the right temperature. The insulating fleece liner is part of the brilliant and fully-recyclable packaging solution by Woolcool, which helps us insulate your food so it stays chilled for longer. The fleece itself is made of pure sheep’s wool which is 100% compostable (unless you want to try and knit a jumper with it!). Water-filled cool packs ensure your food arrives at a safe temperature and stay cool until at least 10pm on the day of delivery.

Why plastic?

The plastic pouches are the safest, healthiest, smallest, lightest way to preserve and transport your freshly-cooked food. Trays with sleeves include a lot of unnecessary air and cardboard and are inefficient to transport and store. Glass jars may look pretty but they are unaffordable for most people, and their size and weight makes for a huge carbon footprint. Currently, there is no solution that offers a better combination of hygiene and small carbon footprint. That said, we are always looking to improve. We would love to ditch the plastic completely and are continually testing compostable solutions. Once we find one that stands up to our rigorous food preservation standards, we’ll switch.

Remember that all our food is fresh, so do make sure to consume by the date printed on the pouches. If you’re planning to eat later or aren’t sure, you can freeze all your meals (better if you do it at the earliest convenience), but remember to thoroughly defrost the pouches you froze before reheating, and to use them as soon as they’re defrosted.

About Farmstand

What are your values?

We are taking a stand for real food equality. That means food that’s properly healthy and accessible for all, without costing the earth. We prefer deep business commitments to splashy charity gestures. Here are some of our commitments: More than half our menu will always be plant based. And we’ll measure ourselves on our success getting more people to shift towards plant-based meals. No more than £5 a meal. We price our food affordably so we can distribute it widely. Bringing healthier and more affordable food to everyone, everywhere (not just the wealthy).Properly healthy food. Our meals are 100% free from preservatives and added sugarZero waste. No food waste, and nothing into landfill. Everyone an owner. Pay equality. All our team is paid at least the London Living Wage. Our highest paid person is only paid 3x the lowest. Gender equality. Half of our Board has always been women and always will be.As a Tech Zero signatory, we commit to measuring and reporting all our emissions, including scope 3, and setting a net zero target by end of 2021. This means limiting our company’s carbon footprint in line with keeping global warming to below 1.5°C - the critical level of heating to avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis.

Where are you based?

We started in London, and our central kitchen is located in Deptford. Our team is located all around the world, but everyone’s just one call away!

Who is Farmstand for?

Anyone who wants to eat a little better every day! Young, old, single, in a family - we’d all love to be healthier, and have more energy for life. But it’s not easy and it’s definitely not cheap. That’s why obesity is now a bigger global health problem than malnutrition. We worked hard to make Farmstand convenient, affordable and widely available, with a large and varied menu featuring tasty dishes from all over the world, all freshly cooked with zero added sugar or preservatives. Our unique pouch format means Farmstand can feed a crew or just yourself. Farmstand is loved by vegetarians and vegans for its tasty, nutritious plant-based options, but we’ve designed it to work especially well for non-vegans who are trying to put more plants on the table. We’re fully flexitarian with sustainably sourced meat and fish options. Our promise: truly healthy, delicious meals for a fiver, and ready in 5 minutes. Because when everyone has access to the food they need to feel their best, every day, that’s real food equality. That’s why The New York Times called us “wellness for all.”

Who owns Farmstand?

We do. Our team and our subscribers are also our investors and owners. We aren’t owned or even part-owned by “big food’ and we never will be, unlike many of the so-called ethical meal delivery companies out there. Our story began in London in 2016: Steven, our founder, wanted to solve a simple problem: to provide anyone with fresh, healthy, reasonably-priced food available any time. He first tested the idea in his own house in 2015, converting it into a pop-up restaurant for his friends for one night only. With an astonishing 97% thumbs up, Farmstand launched the next year, setting up its first central kitchen in Deptford and a physical showroom restaurant in Covent Garden. When the pandemic hit, Steven saw the opportunity to make healthy meals even more accessible, by starting a home delivery meal service.Since that first pop-up in Steve’s house, we’ve sold nearly 1m meals through subscriptions and by partnering with offices, canteens, and local food markets. We've even appeared in the New York Times!
